Well, that's one less thing to do...maybe

I painted my armoire, this weekend.

Finally, right? : )

The only thing is, that the color is not *quite* what I was going for.

I used Glidden's Antique White and it's a bit brighter than I wanted.

By no means, is it a stark white but it's not quite the creamy white, I had in mind.

Still, I do like the change.

It definitely brightens up my living room which is what I was going for.

Here is a before pic...

And the after...

Much, much better, right?!

I wanted it to look distressed, so some places have the brown coming through.

I love that it's not a perfect paint job.

I also, love that the white shows off some the details, that kind of got lost in it when it was darker.

I really am liking the change, just not sure if I should go a shade darker or leave it as is.

What say, you?

Should I leave it or go a tiny bit darker?

I like it. See if it grows on you.

I'd probably end up leaving it anyway--after all the effort of painting it, I know it would be a loooooong time before I was ready to do the same project over again. I think sometimes I have decorating and craft ADD.

Looks so much lighter and brighter!

I agree with Cheryl - it looks peachy keen as is, but you know how you 'feel' about it. Wait a while and see before making any changes.

I like the 'not perfect' paint job as well. It suits it!

Looks really great Stephanie! I would leave it too and see what you think after a week or so! It is hard with your dark walls to see such a contrast, I get that but I think it is beautiful!

It looks so fresh...great job. If you decide you want to go a bit darker I'd just rub on a wash of paint a tone darker to add some dimension.
Good luck and enjoy! Janell

i like it! i would do the wash thing that was mentioned, it does need a little dimension. but it is way more stunning than before!

Ditto to comment #4 :D. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I love that you had the guts to paint over all of the other stuff--it looks so great now!

I think I agree with you--in the photo it looks a tad bright--but one can't tell by a photo--you are there in person--you might want to give it a softer white if you are feeling it is too bright. I like how the details come out with the new color. I have painted some things bright white and I am ok with the brightness...like you say it lightens things up.

I was just reading a blog yesterday (and for the life of me I CANNOT remember who- sorry!) and she used Valspar's Transparent Glaze in Mocha. She wiped it on her white painted armoire, then wiped it off to give it a mellow, aged effect.

She said it was super easy and if she didn't like how a section turned out, she'd wipe it all off with a damp paper towel and start over.

You can buy the glaze at Lowe's.

Good luck and I love it white! Great job!!

FOUND IT! Google is my friend.

Traci at Beneath My Heart has a great tutorial where she transformed her corner armoire into a TV stand and glazed it with the Valspar.

Here's the link: http://beneathmyheart.blogspot.com/2009/07/not-corner-hutch.html

Hope that helps!

It's so much better! I am in love with Glidden's Parchment White right now- it's a bit more antique looking, if that's what you're going for. Just a thought... it looks great as is!

It looks a tiny bit too white, but that may just be the pics. Have you thought about rubbing a little stain over it to see if that'll tone it down some?

Great job!

I'd leave it and live with it for a while before you decide. You could always rub some glaze into all the carved areas if you want to bring out more details.

But it looks awesome!

I love the white, which is a wonderful improvement! I, too, would be tempted to tone down the white just a smidge. You might be able to just lightly rub a stain over it, then wipe it back off. Tha tmight give you a more muted effect without repainting ...

I think it looks great. If you're not sure I would live with it for a while and see what you think.

I like it.

I like the details, too. I have details on our chairs in our dining set. You didn't even notice them until it was painted. Another check for painting wood! =)

Love it! It's so dramatic! My sister in law uses a touch of minwax pecan stain over her painted pieces to give them a muted kind of finish to the color. I like it as it is, but you could try that if you wanted.

That is gorgeous! SO much better white!

I think live with it for awhile and see what you think.

I think it looks great and agree with Janelle. If you want to go darker, just do a wash, glaze, or something like it. Found this post via Miss Mustard Seed.

It looks so fresh and clean in the white! I absolutely love the shape of that piece. You just can't go wrong with white!
